UCLA Labor Center Renamed

The Rabbi Leonard I. Beerman Foundation is delighted to announce that the UCLA Labor Center will be renamed the UCLA James Lawson Jr. Worker Justice Center in honor of our remarkable and beloved Board member. This act is the result of a wide-ranging, multifaith effort by many admirers of Reverend Lawson to rename the Center and gain a $15 million allocation from the state legislature for its renovation.

Jim Lawson, the great civil rights icon, was a close partner of Leonard Beerman in the cause of justice and non-violence. Reverend Lawson was honored this past April, on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Leonard's birth, with the third Beerman Social Justice in Action Award. He also participated in a remarkable dialogue with his former student, the late Representative John Lewis, who was the first recipient of this award. Below is a clip of that conversation. The Beerman Foundation joins together in expressing our gratitude and congratulations to Jim Lawson, a genuine American hero.

Our Board member David Myers recently participated in a program for the Muslim Public Affairs Council, hosted by Salam Al-Marayati, another of our Board members. Entitled The History of Zion and the Legacy of Rabbi Leonard Beerman, this video is well worth your time. Thank you.
